I was raised in Chicago, raised the kids in a northwest sububurb under the airport, and am now in a suburb of Atlanta. I do not miss the frigid, snowy weather of the Chicago winters (although the winter weather is mild now) of the the last century when it was so cold we hung blankets on the windows and couldn't let the kids out and the snow was too deep to walk in and too cold to play in. I like it here; lots of trees, hills, civil war stuff--things not in Chicago. We love to visit some of our kids 'up north' and have seen more great Chicago stuff in recent years than we'd seen in the last 45.
I like reading and have a diverse home library with books of all types from Seizing the Enigma to Harry Potter and Sue Grafton. I stood in line to get the newest HP, but there was no line for SE or even Virus Hunters of the CDC.
I have 8 siblings, all well, living their own creative lives. It would have been impossible to predict the various lives each of us has chosen. I was a teacher but not a good one, and worked elsewheres for many years. Not any more.
Home is dull, but the family parties are great fun and constant; lots of birthdays and 'drop ins' as several more children live close by. And, as trips in Atlanta are measured in time not miles, driving 9 miles takes 12 minutes down here but can take 45 minutes up there. We see each other often and just put another potato in the pot and another plate on the table. I love it.
